Unlock Your Full Potential: Kickstart a Healthier Lifestyle with These 5 Energy-Boosting Supplements for Thriving Business Owners
Health really is wealth. Simple adjustments to your lifestyle can improve your energy levels and cognitive function which will help you grow your business and work more efficiently.
I’ve been working as a nutritionist for over three years. I often get asked, “how can I have more energy?” Alongside clients looking to improve energy levels, I also get a lot of questions regarding how to improve cognitive function, like the ability to focus and retain memory. It is common for business owners to feel burnt out. Supplements are a great way to kickstart a health journey. These supplements I’ve included below can help you improve energy and cognitive function so that you can excel at what you do.
5 Energy-Boosting Supplements for Thriving Business Owners:
1. Chromium
Chromium stabilizes blood sugar. Blood sugar imbalance is the biggest contributing factor to low energy. When we eat simple sugar or refined carbohydrates we spike our blood sugar, which is always followed by a drop resulting in the symptoms listed below. Cutting out sugar, especially early in the day can help with these symptoms. However, if you want to improve your body’s ability to metabolize sugar, you can supplement chromium to increase insulin sensitivity.
Symptoms of blood sugar imbalances/signs you should supplement with chromium:
- Sugar cravings
- Crashing in the middle of the day
- Dizziness
- Brain fog
- Diet high in refined sugar (including drinks like pop and alcohol)
- Diabetic / prediabetic
- Hormonal imbalances

2. Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha improves sleep quality. If you aren’t sleeping, then you’re not going to be energized throughout the day. Difficulties falling asleep or poor quality sleep are most often a result of an imbalance in the circadian rhythm. We all have an internal clock that dictates when we sleep, wake, feel hungry, pass bowel movements etc. Avoiding screens in the evening, and consistency with bedtime can help to balance this rhythm. Supplementing with an adaptogen like ashwagandha can also help to regulate this rhythm, and stabilize energy throughout the day.
Symptoms of a dysregulated circadian rhythm/signs you should try ashwagandha:
- Problems falling asleep
- Difficulty staying asleep
- Not waking up feeling rested
- Constipation
- Deregulated hunger cues
- Highs and lows in energy levels throughout the day

3. L-tyrosine
L-tyrosine is the precursor to dopamine! Supplementing with L-tyrosine can naturally boost your mood and improve cognitive function. Dopamine is linked to other neurotransmitters that are energy producing like epinephrine and norepinephrine. L-tyrosine enhances alertness, ability to multi-task and has been used to treat symptoms of attention deficit disorder (ADD). Eating nutrient dense foods can help increase levels of L-tyrosine however supplementation is a great place to start.
Signs you should try l-tyrosine:
- Unstable mood
- Poor memory
- Depression / melancholy
- Brain fog
- Poor ability to concentrate

4. B-vitamins
B-vitamins are essential for cellular energy production, cognitive function and mood.
B12 is the most recognized B-vitamin however I recommend taking a B-complex because each B-vitamin has a unique function in the body. Stress can deplete B-vitamins, which is why they are a good choice for busy business owners.
Signs you should supplement with a b-complex:
- Fatigue
- Anxiety / depression
- High stress lifestyle
- Iron deficiency
- High alcohol consumption

5. Electrolytes / Hydration
Another main contributing factor to low energy is dehydration. Dehydration leads to electrolyte imbalance leading to tiredness and difficulty concentrating. Additionally electrolytes help the body stay hydrated. The brain uses water to function, so increasing water intake alongside supplementing electrolytes may improve cognitive function, including attention, concentration, and memory.
Symptoms of dehydration / signs you should supplement with electrolytes:
- Headache
- Reduced urination
- Tiredness
- Blood pressure dysregulation
- Cramps
- Dizziness / lightheadedness
- Cravings
